One of our core values is giving back. In 2016 we donated to Kiva, a charity that gives microloans to (mostly) women in developing countries. Almost 100% pay back the loans, with interest.  When the loan is repaid, Kiva allows you to reinvest the money to fund another project. Over four years, one of our villagers has done dozens of these loans and turned his original $25 investment into $400 that he now lends to new women.

So far we have loaned $100 each to two women with housing-related projects:  Karina del Carmen from El Salvador who is building a room without a dirt floor for her family and Nhom- Binh Xuyen from rural Vietnam who is building a latrine to help prevent illnesses in her village.  This quarter we gave $100 to Amir from Palestine to repair his war-damaged home.

This year (2017) we are supporting a local charity, Altira, that helps women in the Downtown East Side with housing issues.  Here's what they say about their good work:

"Last year alone Atira was able to provide more than 500 beds to women and their children, including temporary and permanent housing, providing support services to more than 8,000 women and children overall."
